I am inspired by the shorter days and longer nights to dive more deeply into a sense of relaxation with my personal yoga practice and partner yoga practice. My favorite AcroYoga pose this month is Straddle Bat.
You can enter the pose through Parsarita Twist or Canon Ball Mount. I love to add a neck traction, head massage or shoulder massage* when I am giving or receiving this pose. You can try the shoulder massage by placing one hand on the very top (now bottom) of the trapezius muscle and then bending one leg. This modification pours all your weight onto that shoulder and irons out your “scrunchy muscles”– those ones that constrict when driving, when it gets colder and when we spend a lot of time at the computer.
As with any physical practice listen to your body and stop if it doesn’t feel right. You know your body better than anyone else in the world– so trust yourself to know when something is too much.
